Chevy Camaro Fifty
2017 Chevrolet Camaro Fifty Edition

My impressions of AMT kits over the years have not been spectacular. I remember building AMT kits many years ago in my early teens with tons of flash, terribly proportioned pieces, poor details and oversized tires.

With the latest releases, AMT has really made an effort to make better quality kits. Although the 2017 Camaro Fifty kit shares pieces with the 2016 Camaro SS as well as the "Snap It" variations, they are molded crisply and the details seem to be very much improved over yesteryear. To be completely honest, I thought it was rather Tamiya-esque when going over the sprues individually.

Unlike many different model manufacturers, AMT's Camaro does not label each individual sprue. Rather, they have numbered every since part. Here is a highlight of some of the important pieces:

Parts 1 to 5 are mainly of the body & chassis. They are molded crisply without any blemishes. The body does have some mold lines so those will need to be sanded down. The chassis is well detailed and much of the suspension and undercarriage are molded separately.

Part 8 to 15 are interior pieces that are very well detailed. The interior tub is mainly just a floor pan with center console as well as rear seats molded in. The door cards are separate but have great geometry. The dash is well detailed and look pretty spot on to the real car. With a bit of detail painting and decal application, this dash would look pretty realistic.

Parts 38 to 50 consists mainly of engine parts. Again they are very well detailed and definitely surprised me on how well molded they are.
SUMMARY
Highs: Very well detailed kit with high quality plastic. Clean sprues without flash.
Lows: Simplified wheel and axle setup.
Verdict: Overall a great model from AMT. It surpassed the my expectations of an AMT kit.

Looks/sounds pretty good. I have two Camaros, of the latest generation, in my stash, so I will probably not buy this one. However it is good to hear AMT is upping their game.

I was truly surprised by this kit. The quality for the kit seems better than a lot of Revell kits actually. Their wheel to tire ratio is definitely better.

I am close to finishing mine. Excellent fit and great detail. A bit of flash here and there which is a pity. Careful sanding and dry fitting are a must on almost all parts.
