Introduction
This is a new 1/87 semi-tractor from Herpa, the Renault T High-Roof Tractor. It is item 310635. Herpa has been planning this model for a while and it will initially be produced in a limited edition in red. Herpa currently catalogues 33 Renault models, and 15 Renault T models.

Renault T
This long haul truck is based on a Volvo chassis. It is powered by engines of 440 → 520 HP, and Euro 6 compliant. It has a GVW of 19→26 T and a GCW of 40→70 T.

The High-Roof is a high sleeper cab: cab with bunk, high roof, flat floor.

The Model
Herpa created this model semi like their other semis: sharply molded exterior features fine recessed lines for doors and hoods, panels and the grille. Door handles are flush and are the tabs that hold the cab interior in the cab shell. Optional mirrors are included. I found no flaws in the molding or assembly.

The cab sets upon a highly detailed two-axle chassis. The soft tires are a plastic-rubber hybrid. The windshield and windows are free of distortion and you can see the nice interior. It is worth popping the cab off to see, but I did not. Nor did I tip the cab forward to reveal the engine. The way Herpa assembles the models, one usually has to removed several components of trim and grille, as well as headlights. If you are curious, look at the previous semi reviews as some of them demonstrate what it takes to see the engine. Unfortunately, Herpa usually does not include an instruction sheet demonstrating how to do so. Sometimes yes, this time no.

Herpa securely packs this almost fully assembled model set in a form-fitted tray. The tray is held inside a red Herpa carton with a cellophane display window, and opens via tabs at each end. The tray has slots for optional parts, and slots your fingers to easily remove the tray from the box. This arraignment is surprisingly durable — the shipping box was partially crushed in transit, and although a model box was mashed, the model was not damaged. Very nice!

Details
Herpa created a detailed model of the chassis: gearbox, frame, fuel tanks, air tanks, axles, springs and suspension.

Individual clear lenses simulate the headlights, including tinted brake lights.

Inside of the cab is detail worth popping the cab off for: bucket seats, the steering wheel, console, stick shift, and dashboard detailing.

The windshield wipers are part of the combing around the windshield. In the front of the cab doors are slots to mount the optional side view mirrors and corner mirrors. Although the mirrors are delicate, it is a simple process.

Herpa engineered the soft plastic tires to slip over the rims. They display good tread detail. Notice the front axle. Herpa makes a separate steering kit so modelers can steer the truck.

This is a well detailed model.

Livery and Finish
The model components are molded in color. The Renault diamond emblem is chromed, not a decal. Herpa does not use decals. The surface of the cab is glass-smooth.

This is a good looking model.

Conclusion
Herpa's new Renault T High-Roof Tractor will make an impressive presence on your shelf, diorama, or train layout. It has remarkable plastic detail and a great finish. It boasts a detailed underbody, clear lenses for headlights, driving lights, clear lenses for brake lights (tinted red), and a detailed interior which is visible through the clear windows.

My only gripe is the lack of instructions to guide the modeler in accessing the cab interior.

Semi-truck modelers and collectors of modern era vehicles will enjoy having this truck in their collection. Recommended.
