Introduction

Polish Photo-Etch (PE) company Aber have now branched out from military topics to the “civilian world.” Aber are the first company I have seen to produce PE items for 1/24th scale automotive topics. Based on the samples I have, I believe this will be a boon for the automotive modeler.
The Set

The set consists of a single PE fret and a small single-sided instruction sheet. Within that fret are 182 Air-Condition (A/C) nozzles/vents and 66 vent control levers. There are five distinctly different styles of vents in varying sizes. With the exception of the “waffle-styled” vent, all of the vent louvers are adjustable – they can be set in a closed or opened position.
The Review

Aber suggests that before installing the A/C vent, the dash or other location for the vent be drilled or cut out (to give the vent “depth” much like a 1:1 vent). I may “age” myself, but some of the round vents really do look the business!

I think the most difficult aspect to this set would be “opening” the louvers; getting the right angle without warping the louver itself. The round versions, with two louvers should present no problems as they are larger…the other versions that have multiple thin louvers may present a challenge. Another difficult area may the very small and thin control levers; see the picture of the instructions for this.

SUMMARY
Highs: A very unique detail item for automotive builds. There is a huge quantity of A/C vents included in this set and the variety of styles and sizes should suit many automotive builds. There’s a very high interior “bling” factor with this.
Lows: Potential difficulties bending the vent louvers into proper position without damaging them. Very small vent control lever.
Verdict: A very nice PE set that can certainly add a great amount of detail to the interior/dash of an automotive build. Highly recommended.

Like most, I started out in my young years; building Monogram armor and aircraft. Joining the Army at 17 in 1981 put a stop to my building for many years, I retired in 2001 and ran across Armorama....I've been re-hooked since. I'm a notoriously slow builder and seem to have more than one buil...
