Mercedes-Benz Zetros...

...is a conventional truck debuted at Interschutz 2010 in Leipzig. Mercedes-Benz premiered the Zetros as a fire engine. The heavy conventional truck Zetros, latest addition to the Mercedes-Benz fire brigade program, was primarily developed for the military market and is available as an two- or three-axle all-terrain vehicle. This version is an all-terrain fire engine for water supply and fire fighting in forest fires, an impressive 6x6 configuration, is a Ziegler fire engine TLF 30/90-5, based on the Zetros type 2733 A 48.

Zetros runs on a 326-horsepower 7.2-liter inline-6 turbodiesel engine. There are two transmission choices: a standard nine-speed or an optional six-speed Allison 3000 automatic transmission. The Zetros also gets three mechanical differential locks as standard to tackle the toughest terrain.

Herpa Zetros

Introduced in
DER MASS:STAB 2/2011 as the cover story, Herpa releases the Mercedes-Benz Zetros 6x6 with a current Ziegler TLF 30/90-5 superstructure. This model too was produced by Cursor-Modelle – the company utilizes Herpa components.

This Zetros is mostly factory assembled, you must attach the optional mirrors to the cab. It’s securely packed in a form-fitted tray. The tray is held inside a red Herpa carton with a plastic film window, and opens via tabs at each end. The tray has a slot for the mirrors, and slots for your fingers to easily remove the tray from the box. A holographic Daimler licensing label is on one flap.

The model is skillfully molded and assembled without any blemishes or flaws. Doors, hoods, and access panel lines are defined with recessed lines. The grille is not molded open. Sprouting over the right fender is the air intake; the cap has a dimple molding flaw. A circular hatch atop the cab is removable.

Corrugated metal doors are molded on the sides and end of the Ziegler pumper body. Its top features raised tread detail, an extendable traversing nozzle, and ladders.

Rubber tires with sharp detail mounted on detailed hubs support the model. Michelin is molded on the sidewalls. The front wheels can be made to steer if you use Herpa’s steering set.

Details...

The model features headlights, parking lights, and warning beacons of appropriately tinted clear lenses. However, the tail lights are printed. Detail inside the passenger compartment includes a dashboard, steering wheel, gear shift, console and seats; this detail can be seen through the windows.

Exterior detail includes separate sideview mirrors. The grille sports a chromed Mercedes-Benz emblem. Windshield wipers detail the windshield. Underneath the vehicle is a chassis of simplified detail and a spare tire.

Finish and Markings

The model is molded in color. Some white visibility markings are printed on. Ziegler is sharply printed upon the model, as is Zetros on the grille. Herpa does not used decals.

Summary

Zetros are big vehicles. This imposing model captures the brawny character of the vehicle. Overall the detail is sharp. I appreciate the rubber heavy tires and the detailed cab. My main complaint is the molding flaw of the air intake cap flaw, and the printed tail lights. This model captures the feel of the imposing firetruck. Recommended.
