Hi Damian,
I can give that a go. I have a bit of time in airport terminals over the next couple of days including Melbourne on Friday night. So I will draft something up along the lines of previous posts and take some photos when I get home. Do I send them to you? and how do I do that with the photos?

cheers
Michael

Hi Michael.

Sounds like you are working my job! I flew from Melbourne to Adelaide Monday morning, Adelaide to Sydney last night, and right now I'm sitting at Sydney airport waiting to board to head back to Melbourne.

If you go to the Reviews tab, there is an info box with a big blue question mark. In that box is a "Submissions" link where you can load your text directly into a review staging area, and there is a link to the automodeler admin email inbox for images. The Admin team can tweak it as necessary and then make it "LIVE" on the site. If you come across any stumbling blocks, shoot me a PM and I will help in any way I can.

It would be great to start getting a few submissions from the active members here to support the work the Admin teams is doing. There are just so many kits out there in peoples stashes that everybody would love to get a look at this way.

Thanks for offering to do this, very much appreciated mate.

Cheers, D

Wrong? hmm, I get the feeling something is missing, but I can't really put my finger on it. I have been staring, non stop, non blinking, at the pictures for what seems like an eternity and I know something is supposed to be there, but it's not. I need to meditate, get the third eye thing going and I'm sure it will come to me.

Other than, that elusive missing thing, it's a nice haul. Never seen the Doyusha Aston M. before.

If anyone here ever makes it to NYC, there is an old school hobby shop out on Long Island in a town called Bay Shore. It is one of those places to go to spend about 3-4 hours searching through kits. New as well as long discontinued. About the only thing I didn't find in there was an Aoshima Road Warrior.

You can barely walk down the aisles as there are kits piled in front of the shelves which are loaded from floor to ceiling.

I hadn't been to the place in about 7 years but I'm on the Island for a business trip this week. Scored a couple sci-fi kits that he had for cheaper than the online place named after a river.

Place is called Bay Shore Hobbies and Bob, the owner, is a great guy too.

Well with Rowan getting one recently and bring back memories I found these and could resist.
Also picked up Zero paints Calsonic blue.

Edit.. help! using flicker and don’t know how to get the picture rather than a link.

Went back into Bayshore Hobbies last night before heading home today, grabbed the Benetton Ford B192. I'll get the Indycals markings for it (no Camel markings on the Tamiya decal sheet) and do it as Shumie's first win at Belgium in 1992.

David,
I've been going to Bobby's for more years then I can remember. These days I've really cut back on buying kits as the build 'em when I finally retire is now reality.

The hardest thing at Bob's is when someone wants to pass you in a Isle. Most of the time you've gotta move one way or the other.

The place is a treasure chest of older kits at the old retail prices, as Bobby just doesn't seem to increase the prices once he marks them.

D,
Not only isn't there an American made car, but none are by any means American Muscle cars for the streets.

The closest thing to American muscle is the AAR Castrol Cart Eagle which was powered by a Buick V6 Turbo.

Right now, one can't even get into the ship model section at the left rear of the store. It is completely blocked by kits. LOL

Totally agree that it is a treasure trove of older kits.

Hi all

Nothing new just yet, but I've got a trip to England (that's what we call the mainland, here on the Island ) coming up at the end of the month when I have to go to an Oxfam training session in Salisbury. It looks like there's a good LHS there, so I'm pretty determined not to leave empty handed.

In the meantime, I've been a very naughty boy and clobbered my modelling budget by ordering an electric 12-string and a baritone guitar! They've been high on my want-list for yonks and they both showed up in a sale. It didn't help that I only watched a great video of Buddy Miller giving a rig run-down the other evening which only underlined the gaps in my line-up!

All the best

Hi Damian

Ouch! A serious sanction! Will do.

I haven't got a delivery date yet, but I'll be sure to post pics. It's funny - I've wanted an electric 12-string since I was a teenager and passed on the chance to buy what was even then a vintage Fender Electric XII (a classic "one that got away" that will always bug me!), but it's actually the baritone that's got me most excited, because it will be totally new territory for me (I've had an acoustic 12-string since the '70s, so the electric should just feel "right" pretty much straight off the bat, touch wood... ).

All the best

Hi again

I have to hang my head in shame! I went to the model shop in Salisbury today and bought... a wingy thing!

But I've got to give a shout-out to the Salisbury Model Centre. Anyone local to Salisbury will need no introduction to the shop, but the historic town attracts huge numbers of visitors from elsewhere in the UK and abroad who may not be aware of this classic LHS. What better way to round off a sightseeing trip than calling in on a model shop?!

It's really worth a visit and has a great selection of the latest mainstream and smaller manufacturer kits, as well as an extensive line-up of paints and tools etc.

NOTE: If you're planning to visit Salisbury Model Centre, be sure to print off the voucher from their website for a 10% discount on purchases in-store.

All the best

There's rarely a week that goes by where something of interest doesn't pop up on the local Facebook BSS sites.

This week it just happened to be the hardtop kit of my favourite Corvette year, to go with the 2 convertibles already hiding in the stash.

Hi Damian

Now that's a seriously tasty Corvette!

My Danelectro 12-string and baritone arrived today (pics to follow) I've just done a quick test recording and the combination is incredible - such a breadth of tones and texture. They're obviously not in the same league as the hand-made Gordon Smith T-Style, but I'm still pretty knocked out by the quality of these very affordable instruments - and the lipstick pick-ups are amazing!

The electric 12 is maybe a little bit "niche", but I'd recommend the baritone to any guitarist, because it instantly gets you out of the "same old, same old" rut with its radically different voicing. Familiar stuff sounds different and takes you straight to new places. If you haven't already got a baritone, I'd say get one! I already wish I'd done so years ago.

All the best

I totally agree Rowan. The '65 and '67 are the best of the Corvette body styles in my eyes. I'm thinking when I finish up the '53 and '54 that are currently on the bench I might do a triple build of the '67 Hardtop and 2 x convertibles.

Great to hear that the guitars have arrived at Merlin Central, I'm looking forward to seeing those pics once you get them posted.

Hi Damian

Here's a quick pic of my latest axes:

I've read and watched a lot of reviews of Danelectro guitars saying they are MUCH better quality than you might expect - and I can now say, hand on heart, they are totally correct. In terms of bangs per buck (or should that be twangs per buck! ), they are crazily good!

Using an reverse inflation calculator, these would have worked out at about £80 each in the late '70s when I bought my budget Gibson "The Paul" for £299 - which was a serious amount of money for a teenager! It's a sign of how quality has risen, because an £80 guitar would probably have been REALLY rough back then...

The sad thing is that I passed on buying an original Fender Electric XII around that time for £350 because it was totally out of my price range for what would have been a "spot effects" guitar. These days it would easily fetch several thousand pounds... And, more importantly, it had a range of tones this new Danelectro isn't capable of.

That said, the first time I heard the Danelectro back in the mix of a quick test recording, it instantly justified its place. (And it totally blew away my Variax which, for all its good points, simply can't handle mimicking a 12-string.)

All the best
