Indeed David, a great choice. I think if I had seen it this weekend I may have bought that instead. Since we are now out of lockdown I did an unlikely thing and bought a kit from the LHS. Following the call to support local business was my excuse. First model car that I have bought that wasn't from the 1970's or earlier.

that's one great kit for sure. The Merc AMG GT3 car is a personal favorite. As a matter of fact, as a senior sim racer, my favorite class is GT3, and my two cars of choice are the Merc AMG GT3, and the Audi LMS R8 GT3.

I bought the Audi kit and now I'm looking to buy the Tamiya Merc. Just want different sponsor decals.

David, I was eyeballing that one for my last order I placed a few days ago, but the curbside "feature" versus price put me off. I bought some classics and a Porsche tractor instead. I'm still a sucker for that colour scheme! I'm waiting for your build!

Well here's one that might surprise a few (if not ALL) of you! The large scale (1/12) 300SL Gullwing!



There's a story behind this one. About 45 years ago my father asked me to help him build a new model kit that he had just bought. Up until then I had just sat and watched as he built and hand-painted his truck models, occasionally I was allowed to sort out the sprues or even trim some parts off.

When he put this kit on the bench and asked me to cut the seals and open it up, I was over the moon! This was the first kit that I actually played a major role in building, I was about 7 or 8 years old. I remember it was white with a red interior, the doors opened and the wheels turned and I was in heaven! Where it ended up I have no idea, lost over time as my parents moved house, divorced etc.

I have been looking around for this kit for years now (at the right price that is!), to have another go at it, and thanks to a Facebook Buy/Swap/Sell group, it was delivered today!

Most of the parts are off the sprues, but from what I can see it is complete, unstarted and undamaged. I will get some photos of the contents ASAP and maybe do a review.

I am aware of the inaccuracies and problems, I believe that it was originally a Renwall kit from the mid-60's, but I am just so happy to have one in the stash now.

Nothing beats a nostalgia build. I'm sure that your Mojo levels will be at 100% throughout the entire build. I'm certainly looking forward to following along. Hopefully, there will be a few stories along the way from the 1st build.

Never heard of that facebook group as I rarely venture there. But I'm always looking for new resources as ebay has turned into a high priced market that in many cases exceeds the online retailers.

There are literally dozens of local Facebook Buy/Swap/Sell groups, many very focussed on the content. I am involved in about 10 here in Australia/New Zealand that are specifically for scale models and accessories. Posts can range from one or two odd kits or decal sets, spare parts or instructions, to entire stash clearances. I cleared out most of my 1/48 aircraft kits via one or two sites here, and that's where I find most of the kits I now buy.

I'm sure there will be plenty in your local area, similar to the focussed sale forum here on Kitmaker.

Yes. Search for scale models buy/swap/sell or scale model cars. Some of the model car groups have their own BSS pages. It's a whole new world!

Damian, these last buys are definitely showing that you're making huge healing progress. One Mercedes and two Duesenbergs might be just enough to cure your Chevrolet addiction.
I love that Merz myself and, as Joel said, being loaded with so much significance for you, it must become a fantastic build. As for Duesenbergs, for being American Mercedeses, I love'em too!

Not big deal, but just in time replenishment:

Quite often I was asked when I mention Krylon enamel if I mean decanted spray paint. No, I mean these little bottles. Although marketed as enamels, thy're smelling and behaving more like lacquers, especially when diluted with MLT or lacquer thinner. All colours are excellent across the range, except for orange. The "Pepper red" it is very "poppy", the black it is very interesting, shiny and hard as lacquer, but somewhat little transparent, which adds depth to the shade; it makes a perfect base for alclads. The only better gloss black I know of is the Rust-oleum in tin cans, but that one it is laden with oil and takes some 4 days to dry to handle. The white it is also interesting for being a warm white (you might care to see the colour of the oil at the top of the bottle). All are rather consistent and a dilution of 1:3 or 1:4 it is required.
Oddly enough, all their colours I find here are glossy or metallic, except for the crappy orange (the metallics are also very good). I really like the range, and I am quite surprised why their number of colours it is so limited. I even wrote to the company to ask and I offered myself to help them develop a wider chromatic range, but - yeah - sweet dreams! Right so, who the heck I think I am!? They never bothered to answer. Too bad they don't have (ot I cannot find) yellow, otherwise I could have made my own Krylon palette!

Actually I won't be surprised if the "connoisseurs" will appreciate more the derelict modeled one than the saloon quality one. But for that I'd buy the Italeri kit - the engine looks pretty much like the one in your picture

Wow! I really like that little Italian car! Shame about the scale - but I may well treat myself to one!

I've indulged in a bit of retail therapy to get over the shock of coming off furlough and going back to work!


It's an Eastman T59/v-RD and the moment I started playing it, I realised why Eastman are getting such good reviews! I've wanted to get a new semi-acoustic for ages as a bit of a "return to my roots", because my first "proper" guitar was a second hand Epiphone Casino back in the mid '70s - which I've still got, but it really is knackered!

The Eastman is in a different league to most of my other guitars. The neck and fret job are beautiful, and my first impression of its Seymour Duncan pickups is that they are arguably the most balanced and expressive of anything I've got.

The Topolino was very small in 1/1 and in 1/35 it is daunting. Some of the PE parts are unbelievably small.

The guitar looks amazing, a stringed work of art.
