Hey Gang,

It's been a while since I've posted here. Well, I've been working on Revell's 1/25th scale '57 Chevy 2-1 kit to go with the Pete 359 build. What? Yep, I'm turning the Pete into a "toy hauler", so in order to that I've got to finish this. The Pete will be the same color as the '57, Arctic blue metallic.

Here's some photo's. The kit is OOB, I chose to go with the "Custom" option that the kit gives you.

Interior is hand painted.































The undercarriage, pipes, motor, transmission, engine compartment, underside of hood, firewall, radiator, brake rotors, and disc brake pads are all hand painted. The head liner will be also done by hand. The only thing not hand paint will be the main body color. Trim will be done by hand. Phew!

Hi Brian

A very good finish you have achieved with hand painting. I have followed the Pete build too, it will look good on the back of it. The 57 is such a nice car, built either custom or standard it looks classy. You have done a good job. What paint are you going to spray with. The reason I ask is I am building a 55 Chevy and I painted it with nail polish and got a really good finish.

I'll be using Testors 1209, spray enamel, Arctic Blue metallic. I used about half a can on the body and it ran like a ice cream cone under a heat lamp. So I had to strip it down, prime it, and now it's ready for another shot.

My paints are all Testors Model Master for my Armor/Aircraft builds and Testors Gloss/Semi-gloss enamels for the Auto/Truck builds. Granted there are better paints out there, but for my small volume builds, that's what I use.

I was going to paint the body today but the weather wasn't having any of that! Monsoon season in Colorado, got to love it! Hoping tomorrow will be better for painting outdoors.

The color on the cap lied! Just kidding, I was hoping that it would be a shade lighter than that. But I'm pleased with the way it's turned out so far.

Nice '55!
To answer the question on painting outside, yes. Humidity is an issue when doing it outside. Anything over 20% the paint will run.

I live in an apartment complex and really don't have the correct ventilation to do it with an airbrush, which I do have, I just don't have a compressor. So we do it old school.

Hello Pete,

The body "normally" cures within about 2-3 days after painting outside once I bring it indoors. I won't move it for about 2 hours after I paint it outdoors, then I move it indoors to dry fully.
It is a bit of a pain.

Painted the trim, however I messed up the driver's side and had to repaint that side. Here's the repaint.......

Worked on it some today. The driver's side rear quarter panel is giving me a challenge. Apparently the plastic is very thin and has cracked! So, looks like I'll have to do a repair.









I've glued an thin piece of stryne to the back for support.

Yep, it's a minor set back. The glue didn't set all the way for the backing, had to redo that. Now we wait, some more.

I start my new driving job on Monday. I've been packing for that, thus the lack of updates. I'll make time on Saturday to get it done, minus the body work, that's going to have to wait.
