Here's where I was earlier today. Ran into issues fixing the engine pulleys, exhaust so it exits from the correct side, having issues with spraying future on the glass.

Here's the bits:

Here's the engine. Cut all the pulleys out and put them closer to the correct spot. Made fuel systems, wiring harnesses and plugs as a first effort to detail an engine.

Then made the effort to finish the kit. Body is sprayed with two coats of Future thinned by a third with alcohol.

Lots of work went into this. Comments and criticism welcome.
Everyone's done such great jobs with their models. Really impressive group build.

That is a really good build David, congratulations on getting finished! Some really neat work on the engine mods and detailing, and a very complex decal scheme, overall excellent result!

Very good effort, David!
I can see anything to pick into so you are criticism free
Just something made me curious: have you tried to spray the windows with Future? I use it to treat my windows, but I sink the clear parts into it. I also used to spray it, but that was as preparation for decals on my soft-skin building days

DONE! I'm calling it finished, with an hour to spare. Not a nice As I remembered it. But, kinda sweet nevertheless.

A fading, peeling, rusted Earl Scheib paint job.

Somewhere there's a sepia print of 2 year old me standing on the driver's seat holding the steering wheel.

They drove it from Oklahoma to New Jersey to Massachusetts and put it through a bunch of North East winters in the days of real salt and no undercoats.

Traded it in on a 1962 Mercury Comet. I'll probably never find a model of that.

Congrats David and Mark.

David,
Love the decaling on the 'bat. To second what Gabriel said, I've always dipped windshields and canopies, I've always ended up with orange peel when spraying it.

Mark,
The salt treatment and rust worked out nicely. She looks like she's seen a few too many New England winters, ask me how I know. LOL

Marc,
WTG!!

I just knew that you were going to cross your finish line and earn your covented Ford Blue Circle GB Ribbon.

Just an outstanding build with a totally different finishing technique of the common "Daily Beater".

All,

Thanks for the kind words. Everyone's vehicles turned out great. I'm really impressed with variation on theme and the finishes.

I did spray the glass with an airbrush and Future. My very first attempt(ever)using this method did result in orange peel on the glass. I felt I was too far way from the surface and using a little too much pressure. The body came out fine after two good coats. I stripped the glass and redid it with less pressure, closer, and a heavier coat so it would flow better. I was going to try dipping but I don't have a big enough container to hang them in.

David,
I haven't clear coated with Pledge any clear parts for some time, but what I used for a drying booth back then was model boxes. I dipped the glass twice, then lad it down on pcs of paper towel so that only curved edges touch the paper towel, and then just covered them with a model box. Naturally, this method won't work on flat clear plastic, but if you're doing windshields and rear facing glass, they always have some concave shape to them.

Mark, I'm a bit late to the party but you've put up a very impressive build with a very personal connection. I love that!

Huge thanks to everybody who participated and contributed here, it really is wonderful to see the constant feedback and support from our small (but growing) community, not only through the entire 6 months of the Group Build, but several months before that in the lead-up thread.

I really hope we can keep the momentum going now for the Race Group Build, especially important with a lot of us in isolation for the foreseeable future.

Special thanks of course to Joel, great job leading the unruly mob here, and an ever-present source of information and advice! I'm sure that quite a few of us will be leaning on your experience in the Race field as well mate!

I will leave this thread open to allow for more discussion, and once we get the photo feature of the completed builds put together I will link it here as well.

Cheers, D

Nice article with the builds on the main page Damien. Really diverse collection of entries from delivery trucks to pick ups to race cars. My favourite has to be that Mk 1 Escort in the powder blue racing scheme, absolutely gorgeous

Hi there

Well done to everyone who finished - there are some stunning builds there!

I must admit I completely forgot there was a deadline and am still pottering away at the engine on my Del Rio.

All the best

Thanks guys. I think that the Blue Oval Photo Feature is a statement to all that the Auto Modeler site is alive and well. It works much better than the Group Build Gallery concept because there is no need to navigate away from the forums to find it, and the feature format allows us to standardise the image presentations.

Cheers, D
