Hi Joel, been away on a family vacation and slowly catching up on all the builds here on Kitmaker!

Your work on the wheel/tyre combo looks great and they've come out looking like the real thing!

Well, the Roush IMSA JPS Mustang is basically done, and has limped across the finish line. There's still some more work to be done, but for now I'm calling it done enough and in the books. The rear body shell is only tacked in place, so I need to reposition it on both sides and then glue it in the proper position. I've also haven't as yet re-drilled the mounting hole for the side view mirror as it long ago got filled in with paint and clear coatings, and finally the driver's window net still needs to be made. I tacked in place the kit one that I sanded the heck out of to thin down some, then kind of bent it to slightly drap over the window sill.

All and all I'd say I won the war, but I took a pretty good beating from the Black & Gold beast at every battle as she never did admit defeat. The overall look of the finished model now polished and waxed looks rather good, with the tires & wheels visually being the most satifying part of the build. Overall being honest on my effort, it's just OK at best. I'd give myself a grade of C+ or maybe a B-, but that's it. Just way to many issues that I left as is as I was always getting to frustated.

Normally I've got way too many pictures to post, and struggle to get down to a Baker's dozen, but this time I didn't come close @ just 7 pictures. That's one thing about table top photography, you get to see every single error and issue all over again.

I've still got two more Revell kits in my stash, the Hot Wheels Camaro with Slixx decals, which has the two piece body, and the Folger's Roush IMSA GTO Mustang with a 1 pc body which I do intend to build sooner then later as I have a ton of ideas including scratch building a lot of the interior. Hopefully, the build will be of a higher overall quality.

And thanks to all for sticking it out with me, as I greatly appreciated your support, suggestions, and comments.

Joel

I don't know Joel,

It looks a lot better than something that "limped
across the finish line" to me! It looks good and appears to sit level on all four - a combination that all too often alludes me!

And, it's packed full of great details; and the kit itself seemed to cause you nothing but grief. It's impressive that you didn't just scrap the whole effort along the way, and because you didn't, now have a great looking race car!

Cheers - looking froward to seeing what you do next -

Nick,
Believe me it certainly did limp across the finish line with me dragging my butt right behind it.

While there's plenty of added details, in all honesty I could have and should have done a much better job on the basics. For one thing I'm going back to my tried and true method of installing the glass, and that's with when ever possible using Nato Black or a very dark German Gray for the gaskets but paint them on the outside.

And yes, for once I got all 4 wheels to seat dead flat on the base at the same time. Go figure of all models to accomplish that, it was this one.

But thanks for your thumbs up. Coming from you a modeler of your skill level, it's really much appreciated.

Richard,
Some how I just knew that you'd be lurking at the very end and post for sure. This kit as you know just killed me time and time again. But now it's in my display cabinet until I drag it out and finally finish the last of the details.

As for a next build, it will certainly be an open wheeler. Just not sure exactly which one. It's down to two choices:

A-Tamiya/Ebbro 1/20 scale Lotus 49 that Clark drove to a win at Zandvoort for it's 1st win in it's 1st race. And I was lucky enough to see it in person at the Glen for the USGP that Oct.

B-Tamiya's 1/20 scale Lotus 99T that Senna drove sponsored by Camel Cigarettes.

Right now I'm really leaning towards the 49.

So how's the bike coming along? By now I figured it would be on the road or darn close to it

Well done Joel, limping or not into the finish I like it. I certainly like the detail you put into the car notwithstanding its vigorous attempts to oppose you. And it's always good to have at least one fond memory of a build, and there is nothing wrong with it being the wheels which did look fantastic.

cheers

Another beautiful build and another great thread full of tips and techniques to get a really nice display piece. Many thanks as always for sharing so much detail during your build, and a big thumbs-up for getting this one completed.

Looking forward to the next open-wheeler now. Are you going to get stuck in before the start of the next Group Build?

Cheers, D

Michael,
Thanks so much for those most kind and very generous words. As I've already said, this isn't exactly one of my finest builds by any means, but for the most part it's done and in the display case with a few additional parts yet to come.

And I do consider those wheels and tires the high point of the build as they didn't put up a single protest.

I just might try to nudge all the glass off and paint the rubber seals on the outside to completely hide the visual effects of the glue on the inside. That I think will really make a huge difference even though it's completely wrong as to how the real car's glass was done.

D,
Thanks for your solid support from start to finish. You have always been one of the crew I can count on no matter what. Your advice and suggestions always play a major part in my builds, and helps keep the Mojo flowing in my tank.

Still want to try that glass re-fix if possible. It will make a huge difference in the overall look of the beast in Black.

As for my next build, I'm certainly going to be starting it by next week at the latest. Still need to really pick one off the shelf. I'm really leaning towards the Tamiya/Ebbro Lotus 49, which was their very 1st kit, so it has some issues of it's own. My plan for any open wheeler at this point is at best ignition wires, fuel injection lines, and maybe some brake lines, but that's it. These kits are complex as they are without adding to that complexity.

Our next GB starts April 1st, so I have 2 months to tinker with whatever I start. Since the GB runs a full 6 months, I might finish my open wheeler then start my GB build, or more then likely switch to the GB build, finish it, then back to the open wheeler, but I just can't see any basically OOB build taking more then 3 months max.

Hi Joel

I can only second what others have already said.

You're build of this kit (whilst throwing plenty of challenges your way) is most excellent!

There's lots of added details and always something more for the eye to see than just a standard build.

As always, thanks for the "ride".

She's a beauty!

Mark & David,

Thanks for the congrats, but the Monster almost got it to an even draw. I've still got a few things to do and finish up, but just having it in it's display case does feel kind of good.

Refueling my Mojo tanks for the next build.

Russell,
It's an open wheeler for sure. Just have no idea of which one, and it's going to be mostly OOB. Well, that's the plan.
