I just scored an old Monogram MG on ebay - probably one of the last available. Seller described it as "used, but all the parts looked like they were there". Very fair price. I received it and examined it - the body was in perfect condition - all the chrome pieces were perfect and on the sprues - all the colored plastic parts present - four tires and gas tank in a small baggie. Instructions were included but yellowed after some forty years! I was satisfied with my purchase and began cleaning up and prepping the body parts, and checked the spare tire bracket to see how it attached to the rear. I also wanted to check the fit of the spare tire. Did I say four tires before? Missing one tire - the spare! Can't return it now that I've started the model. Anyone have any good ideas on replacing a missing skinny tire of particular dimensions?

could you use one for a male & make a female mold from RTV silicone?

then make a new tire from silicone? I have no idea what mold release would work.

I did think of something similar - making a squash mold (2 actually - half for each side), and using acrylic paste or putty for the casting. I don't want to spend 50-odd dollars for molding/casting supplies for one piece. Either way it won't look as good as the original tires. I'll save that for last resort!

I wish I had a easy and cheap solution to your problem, but I don't.

As you said, trying to mold one could cost as much as $50 and the odds are it won't look that close to the original tires. If it were me, I'd go back on ebay try to buy a 2nd kit. I did a quick search and there is a unboxed kit for $15 while the one boxed kit is going for $50.

Try to buy the bagged kit asap, and if that fails put in a bid for the boxed kit. I can't imagine that these kits are that much in demand, but I really don't have any idea.

Please keep us informed as to how you solve this problem.

I finally just received the Finecast wheel set! They look pretty, but pretty isn't everything! As the above link shows, they are comprised of white metal castings (rims - inner and outer; hubs; and hub caps), a PE set of spoke disks (again inner and outer disks), and five rubber (real rubber!) tires. The tires, being real rubber, tend to look a little shabby, but they do have Dunlop in raised lettering, and a quick wipe with Armorall makes them look brand new. Molding seam is minimal, and the molding nipple can be hidden at the bottom. Instructions are a little vague as the rims are inner and outer, and even though there is a slight difference, you have to examine closely to spot it (the outer rims have a slightly deeper groove on the inside for the PE spokes to fit) - if you don't spot it you will run into difficulties. Remove the PE spoke disks (they are clearly different and are marked so on the fret) and dish them to fit into the outer rim separated by the hubs. The spoke disks and hubs are sandwiched between the inner and outer rims. There is no diagram for spoke alignment, so reference will be needed. I CA'd the assembly to avoid slippage and clamped them tightly for about 1/2 hour. The rubber tires are now stretched over the wheel assembly. As I said, Armorall makes the tires look shiny and brand new, and a Molotow treatment makes the rims and spokes look chromed. Now comes the heartbreaker! The rubber tires, at first, are about the same diameter as the Monogram vinyl ones, but once they are stretched over the wheel assembly they have gained 2 - 3 millimeters in diameter and don't fit well. Especially under the rear fenders where they are just too big! I will try raising the body from the frame with styrene blocks to make clearance. I hope this works without being noticeable. The Finecast wheels appear to be meant to be mounted on metal rod axles - they won't mount directly to the kit axles. You could butt-join them together with CA, but I know that won't last long! I'll have to drill and insert steel rods into the kit axles to be able to mount the new wheels.

Wish I had seen this thread sooner, as I have an entire bag of tires and wheels that I got in a "spare parts" bargain. I probably could have found you a replacement!
